England reflection

England made hard work of that this evening. They started brilliantly nd looked very slick, but after the half hour mark Sputhgate's team struggled to replicate that and often found it hard to get out of their own half.

The second half was uninspiring, but England have the three points and are in a strong position in the group.

Bellingham was superb, Guehi was also very impressive in the heart of the defece. Kane hardly had a kick and getting dropping too deep, while Foden was barely visible.

So, lots to work on but it's easier to work on things on the back of a victory. England play Denmark next on Thursday tea-time.

Full-time

England have won 1-0

Kane wins a free-kick

HarryKane uses all his experience to win a free kick in hos ownn half with just 60 seconds left and that eases the pressure and should be enough to see the game out

Into added time

We've four minutes of added time to play and England are hanging on to their slender lead.

England substitution

Jude Belingham, who has been by some distance England's best player, is replaced by Kobbie Mainoo, who makes his competitive debut in an England shirt having only played friendly games previously.

Save Pickford

Brilliant effort from Vlahovic as he turns and fires at goal to force a quality save from Pickford. He's had nothing to do all game but came up with a great save there.

England chance

Harry Kane with his first chance of the match and he heads the ball towards goal but the keeper manages to tip it onto the crossbar and it bouinces away. It was a great point-blank save to deny the England captain

England sub

Saka is coming off and is replced by West Ham's Jarrod Bowen.

Saka was a constant threat in the first half and was almost unplayable, but hasn't seen much ball second half.

Serbia going for it

Another attacking substitution by Serbia and they are really going for it in the last 15 minutes.

England will hope Gallagher's arrival can help them get more control in the centre of the park. They still look like a shadow of the side that played the opening 30 minutes.

England change

Alexander-Arnold comes off and Connor Gallagher replaces him.

Flat

England are struggling to get the ball out of their own half now, booming clearances that just come back at them and invite pressure on.

Southgate's men need to get a hold of the ball and control things. Surely time for a substitution or two?

Mitrovic and Lukic come off, Tadic and Jovic come on. That's three subs for Serbia and none for England so far

Possession

Having had close to 70% possession earlier in the game England are now edging it 52% to 48% which tells you how much Serbia have come back into the game in the last 20 minutes of the frit half and the opening 15 minutes of the second half.

Serbia start well

Serbia have started the second half well. England are not getting Foden or Kane into the game at here, with anything good coming down the right flank.

The second half is now underway.

Half-time

England will be happy at that as they take a 1-0 lead into half-time thanks to Bellingham's goal.

England not having it all their own way

Serbia had to show more intent after going a goal down and they've done just that. England's opponents are starting to have much more possession and they're showing some intent with it, too.

Jordan Pickford has not been tested yet, but there's been a couple of warning signs that should keep England honest while they search for a second goal.

Chance England

Alexander-Arnold puts Walker away and he races into the box with blisterig pace, but his pass goes across the face of goal and no England player can get to it for a simple tap in.

Sloppy play from England who give the ball away through Alexander-Arnold near his own box and Mitrovic jumps at a half chance and fires just inches wide of the goal.

Serbia need a new plan

Serbia have set up defensively and you can't blame them given the threast England have. But now they'll need to be more adventurous and come at England more, which should open the game up nicely for England.

England lead.

With their first real attack England score. Saka makes a great run out wide and gets to the byline and puts his cross just in front of the penalty spot and up comes Jude Bellingham with a thunderous header into the corner of the net.

That was a quality finish and a well carved out goal.

Shearer's right

When isn't he! Serbia are certainly going to be a tough nut to crack here.

They're putting everyone behid the ball, closing down well and look well organised defensively. For all their possession, England have not managed to carve out even a small opening yet with 10 minutes gone.
